Ginger Tea Benefits You and Me!
Ginger tea is a drink with tons of health benefits and often times serve as a home remedy to common ailments. Ginger tea is a beverage in many countries with ginger root as its main ingredient. The Chinese usually boils peeled and sliced ginger to which brown sugar is added. In Korea, ginger tea is made either by boiling or by mixing hot water and preserved sweetened ginger. In the Philippines, ginger tea is often served during the cold months of December and January because of its spicy and stimulating flavor which is believed to give a warm sensation on the throat.
Ginger Tea Health Benefits
Ginger is used in almost half of every combination of herbs in Chinese Medicine prescriptions. As ginger being ginger tea’s main ingredient, it has dozens of health benefits like its antioxidant properties, potential to fight certain types of cancers, and aids resistance to diabetes. Studies also suggest that ginger’s shogoal component may help the neurological system of unborn babies and the aged.
Ginger tea has long been used to prevent colds, motion sickness, indigestion and is also a home remedy for nausea and sore throat. It also has been used as a remedy for diarrhea and stomach ache brought about by low body temperature. Ginger tea also aids in blood circulation.
Some studies also show that ginger tea also aids in the relief of pregnancy related nausea and vomiting. Ayurvedic practitioners use ginger tea to as a cure for cholera, anorexia and inflamed liver. In the US, ginger tea is used as appetite stimulant, anti-inflammatory, and to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is also used as an alternative to anti-histamines, and to treat arthritis, osteoarthritis, and joint and muscle pain.
Ginger Tea Recipe
Ingredients:
• 4 – 6 thin slices raw ginger (if you want more flavor, grate the ginger)
• 1 ½ – 2 cups water
• Juice from ½ lime
• 1 – 2 tbsp honey
Preparation:
Peel the ginger and slice (again, grate if you want your tea strong). Boil the ginger in water for at least 10 minutes. If you want a stronger mix, allow it to boil for 20 minutes or until the liquid is reduced. Remove from heat and add lime juice and honey according to your taste.
Although there are little side-effects linked to drinking ginger tea, there are cases on where gas, bloating, heartburn and nausea occur especially if you’re using powdered ginger. Though very rare, allergy to ginger may occur and take the form of a rash. Also, those with gall-bladder disease should avoid taking ginger. Remember: Ginger tea benefits you and me so don’t forget to drink a cup every now and then!
