At the age of 80, more than 50% of the Americans are suffering from cataract or had undergone cataract eye surgery. A cataract occurs when there is clouding in the lens due to the clumping of protein inside it. In this case, people with cataracts may suffer from blurred vision, double vision and poor vision during night time.

Common problems that you may encounter after cataract eye surgery are the following:

Cataracts are commonly related to aging, but there are other ways for you acquire this type of eye problem. This health issue can be caused by a previous eye surgery, an injury, or it can be present from birth. It is also possible for you to suffer from cataracts due to some exposure to certain types of radiation.

According to the Congress Committee on Energy and Commerce, 20% of surgeries performed in the United States are unnecessary. Prostate removal, tooth extraction, and cataract removal are the most common unnecessary procedures conducted in the operating room.

Agency of Healthcare Policies and Research warned that many of cataract eye surgery is not necessary.

To add, the National Institute of Health advised that cataract eye surgery is only recommended if your vision has been reduced to 20/150 even with eye glasses.  In most cases, instead of improved vision, cataract removal may lead to eye infection. You have to be aware that eye infection may lead to blindness. It is highly recommended to ask for a second opinion from an ophthalmologist.
