Follow these simple tips adapted from American Massage Therapy Association:
- Relax your tight muscles during the massage. Inform your massage therapist if you feel that your muscles are tense. They would help you relax the area on which you are experiencing the tightness by changing the massage technique he or she is using.
- Relax. Control your thoughts. Follow the strokes of the massage therapist and focus on how it feels.
- If you feel uncomfortable with what the massage therapist is doing, you have the right to end the session or tell the therapist to stop.
- If you feel lightheaded after the massage, do not get off the massage table too fast.
- After the massage session, remember to drink water.
- Have a quiet and relaxing moment after the massage. Savor the feeling. Allow enough time to relish the soothing effect of the massage.
